The American Veterinary Dental Society (AVDS) was founded in 1976 for the purpose of creating a forum – a forum for advancing the knowledge, education, and awareness of veterinary dentistry among veterinarians, students and the public. Through our efforts, we are successfully increasing awareness of the importance of this facet of animal medicine.

The AVDS boasts a truly international membership with more than 1100 U.S. members, over 70 Canadian members and over 50 international members. This makes the AVDS is the largest organization of veterinary dental professionals in the world. Membership in the AVDS is open to any veterinarian, dentist, hygienist, technician or individual with an interest in veterinary dentistry.

In Sympathy,

The AVDS mourns the loss of Tom Mulligan, who recently passed away on May 1, 2010.  Tom was an early pioneer in veterinary dentistry and co-author of the very popular book, Atlas of Canine and Feline Dental Radiology.  Tom will be missed by all.
